About CML

Carbon Management Ltd. ("CML") works with stakeholders to strategically harness the natural environments of The Bahamas to help mitigate the impacts of global warming & climate change.

CML is a Private-Public Partnership and is 49% owned by the Sovereign Wealth Fund of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

CML, along with strategic partners, works to position The Bahamas as a leader in the global carbon markets.

The ecology of The Bahamas – with its abundant mangroves, seagrass and coral reef – act as natural carbon sinks for the earth’s atmosphere. On the heels of COP26 climate change conference, countries have committed to the creation and trade of carbon credits as a means to reduce harmful emissions and minimise climate change impacts.

OUR MANDATE

The Bahamas is an epicentre of blue carbon ecosystems including mangroves, coral reefs and seagrasses which are highly productive coastal systems. These ecosystems are important for their capacity to store carbon within the plants and in the sediments they live in. Scientific assessments show that they can sequester more carbon per acre than terrestrial forests and are thereby considered a key component of nature-based solutions to climate change.

Building on the agreements emanating from the COP26 climate change conference, where participating countries agreed on the global carbon market co-operation rules, CML was established to leverage the unique natural ecosystems of The Bahamas to develop, manage and trade carbon credits as a means to reduce harmful emissions and minimise climate change impacts.

As part of our mandate, CML works proactively to support local organisations involved in the protection, restoration and preservation of our vital ecosystems.
